Delta Sigma Theta is a public service sorority that establishes community service programs based on our Five Point Program Thrust. One area in our programmatic thrust is Educational Development, through which we annually award scholarships or awards to graduating high school seniors and a college student majoring in education.
Since we were chartered in 1989, we have awarded 88 scholarship/incentive awards to African American graduating high school seniors and 6 African American women majoring in education. In 1995, we established the Clevelandria Adams Memorial Scholarship in memory of beloved Soror Clevelandria Adams, who was committed to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and education. In 1998, we added a new component to our Scholarship program, the “Progressive Scholarship.” Through this scholarship, Suffolk County Alumnae Chapter supports our Progressive Scholarship recipients throughout their four years of college. We are presently supporting four students in college and have distributed a total of $65,000 in scholarship and awards. In 2005, this scholarship was renamed the “Suffolk County Alumnae Chapter” Memorial Scholarship” in memory of our departed Sorors Janie Liotta and Wray Pash Peacock.
Suffolk County Alumnae Chapter is committed to providing young people encouragement and support as they pursue a college education. For the 2011-12 service year, Suffolk County Alumnae Chapter is offering our Memorial Scholarship and Clevelandria Adams Memorial Scholarship.
