Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a public service organization that aims to target areas outlined in our Five Point Program Thrust. Suffolk County Alumnae Chapter provides services and programs to the local community that are in line with the following areas that shape the mission Delta:

Below you will find additional information on a few of our signature programs and scholarship opportunities.

Delta GEMS (Growning and Empowering Myself Successfully) was created to “catch the dreams” of African American at-risk, adolescent girls aged 14-18, a mission embodied by Delta's own, Dr. Betty Shabazz. Delta GEMS provides the frame work to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a “CAN DO” attitude. The goals for Delta GEMS are:
The Delta GEMS framework is composed of five major components (Scholarship, Sisterhood, Show Me the Money, Service, and Infinitely Complete), forming a road map for college and career planning. Topics within the five major components are designed to provide interactive lessons and activities that provide opportunities for self-reflection and individual growth.

In 2002, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF), in partnership with the AAAS Directorate for Education and Human Resources Programs, began developing and implementing the 5-year Science and Everyday Experiences (SEE) Initiative, an informal science education project funded by the National Science Foundation. The SEE Initiative helps parents and caregivers of African American elementary and middle school age children (K-8) develop effective ways to support children's informal science and mathematics learning experiences.

EMBODI
The EMBODI Program addresses the full range of developmental needs of African-American and other minority males ages 14 to 18 years of age, with an evolving focus on education, physical health, social and emotional issues, sexuality, economics, and politics. The Program serves as a motivational tool for African American and other minority teenage males with the ultimate goal of increasing their knowledge and awareness of issues affecting young men today. Suffolk County Alumnae Chapter continues to work with youny men in our area to meet the goals of this program.
