More than ninety years ago on the campus of Howard University, 22 young Black collegiate women formed Delta Sigma Theta Sorority as a public service organization. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1913 at Howard University and serves as a non-profit national organization of predominantly Black college women committed to public service. The focus of Delta Sigma Theta is framed in the Five Point Program Thrust of the organization: Economic Development Educational Development International Awareness & Involvement Physical & Mental Health Political Awareness & Involvement Suffolk County Alumnae Chapter was charter in 1989 with the sole purpose of extending the resources and mission of Delta throughout Long Island. Nationally and locally, the purpose of Delta Sigma Theta is to provide services and programs to support human welfare.
